Topcon Healthcare has joined forces with BeeKeeperAI® to create an innovative, privacy-focused AI collaboration for eye health, significantly benefiting AI developers. The partnership integrates BeeKeeperAI's privacy-enhancing EscrowAI^TM capabilities into Topcon’s Harmony platform, creating a secure environment for developing and validating AI models using real-world eye data while preserving data privacy and sovereignty.

Topcon's Harmony platform is a cloud-based, vendor-inclusive health information system that manages data from various medical devices, including multiple eye imaging modalities. Through the partnership with BeeKeeperAI, Harmony now provides a secure and confidential environment for AI developers to leverage real-world eye imaging data for research and innovation. By combining Harmony with BeeKeeperAI’s EscrowAI platform, Topcon ensures that patient data remains secure and in place while allowing AI developers to perform confidential computations without moving or exposing sensitive information. AI model intellectual property is protected using end-to-end encryption, including during model execution within the confidential environment.

One of the initial beneficiaries of this partnership is the French company AiScreenings. By leveraging the Harmony platform and BeeKeeperAI’s privacy-enhancing infrastructure, AiScreenings can now validate its aiVista model using U.S.-based fundus images without compromising data privacy, thereby speeding up its validation process for the U.S. market. This is a significant step forward for AiScreenings, which faced challenges securing real-world data for model validation due to data privacy regulations, accelerating their time to market.

Leveraging Microsoft Azure for Secure Data Computing

The partnership also leverages Microsoft Azure’s confidential computing capabilities to accelerate the "Healthcare from the Eye" initiative. Utilizing Azure’s secure cloud environment, Harmony can store and manage millions of patient records and imaging data, providing a powerful foundation for computing needs. BeeKeeperAI's EscrowAI platform, also Azure-native, utilizes trusted execution environments to protect both data and AI algorithms end-to-end.
